This is a blog chronicling my four months at UC Berkeley. As most of you who see this will know already, I am a DPhil (PhD) student at the University of Oxford, studying Astrophysics- specifically molecular gas in early-type galaxies. If I'm bored later I might make a post explaining my project in more detail.
I have been sent over to UC Berkeley as a visiting scholar, to work with our collaborators on the joint project we are pursuing. I will be here for four months, and aim to pack in as much stuff as I can!! Planned so far is a conference in Florida, a summer school in New Mexico, an observing run at CARMA (the mm-wave interferometer I get most of my data from), and giving talks at CalTech, UCSC and UCSB. Plus i need to write papers and meet people!
You might wonder why this blog is called "Tim Fights Bears"- well UC Berkeley's mascot is a bear (as is California's) and everyone around the campus has all these tshirts and signs saying "go bears!" (see below). The fight part is just because it sounded cooler than "Tim meets bears" or something!! It remains to be seen how often I will update this, ive tried blogging before and failed miserably, so lets see!
